PPF Warranty in Dubai: What's Actually Covered?

A PPF warranty covers manufacturing defects in the film — yellowing, delaminating, cracking, and peeling under normal conditions — not the installation quality, impact damage from subsequent driving, or improper maintenance. Understanding the two-part warranty structure (manufacturer plus installer) helps set the right expectations before you sign off on a job.

  • Manufacturer warranty (XPEL/STEK/3M): covers film yellowing, delamination, cracking and peeling — typically 10 years
  • Installer workmanship warranty: covers installation defects such as lifting edges, trapped contamination, or misalignment — typically 1–2 years
  • Not covered by either: stone chip or impact damage, scratches from subsequent use, damage from improper washing or chemicals
  • Warranty is registered to the vehicle's VIN and is transferable to subsequent owners in most cases
  • Claims require: original installation certificate, proof of proper maintenance, and inspection by an authorised installer

Manufacturer Warranty: What It Covers

The manufacturer warranty (XPEL's 10-year, STEK's matching warranty, 3M Scotchgard Pro's 10-year) covers material defects under normal use conditions. Yellowing — where the film takes on a amber or brownish tint — is covered. Delamination — where the film's layers separate from each other — is covered. Edge peeling where the film lifts from the panel under normal temperature cycling is covered. Cracking of the film's surface from material degradation is covered.

What the Warranty Excludes

Impact damage — stone chips, scratches, intentional damage — is excluded. The film is a consumable protective product; impact damage is the proof it worked. Chemical damage from improper products (solvents, harsh alkaline cleaners, abrasive compounds on the film surface) is excluded — this is a maintenance responsibility. Damage from improper removal attempts is excluded. Cosmetic concerns such as the film's edge being visible in certain light angles are not warranty items — this is an installation quality discussion, not a material defect.

Installer Workmanship Warranty

The installer's own warranty covers the quality of the installation work itself. Lifting edges within the first 12 months (where the film should still be fully bonded), contamination trapped under the film that was present at installation, or visible stretch marks from incorrect heat application are workmanship warranty items. At Detailing Dynamics, installation defects identified within the warranty period are corrected at no charge.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I make a warranty claim on my PPF?

Contact the studio that installed the film first — they are your primary point of contact for both workmanship and manufacturer warranty claims. They will inspect the film, assess whether the defect is covered, and either correct it directly or initiate a claim with the manufacturer's UAE distributor on your behalf.

Is the warranty transferable if I sell the car?

Most manufacturer warranties transfer to a new owner with the vehicle — the warranty is tied to the VIN, not the original purchasing owner. Confirm transfer terms with your specific brand's UAE distributor when purchasing.
